Baby's First Christmas Pajamas: Prints & Sizes
A baby's first Christmas is full of firsts: the first stocking, the first photo with Santa, the first time the grandparents hold them by the tree. A festive one-piece makes all of those moments feel a little more special, and it is the kind of outfit families keep long after it has been outgrown. This guide covers four of our holiday baby one-pieces, how sizing works from newborn, and how to coordinate baby with the rest of the family.

Prints to choose from
Gingerbread. The gingerbread one-piece has a cheerful gingerbread print, a sweet choice if your family bakes together over the holidays.
Christmas elf. The elf one-piece is playful and bright, and it pairs with our Women's and Men's elf pajama sets if mom and dad want to match.
Reindeer family. The reindeer one-piece features a reindeer family print, a gentle, classic look for Christmas morning.
Santa Claus. The Santa Claus one-piece (0-3M to 18-24M) is a classic pick for the Christmas card, and it matches the Santa Claus two-piece (12-18M to 5-6Y) for an older sibling.
Sizes from newborn
All four one-pieces are listed in 0-3M, 3-6M, 6-12M, 12-18M and 18-24M. For a baby's first Christmas, timing matters: a baby born in autumn may be in 0-3M or 3-6M by late December, while an older baby may already need 6-12M. A few tips:
- Check baby's current size in the week you order, not the week they were born.
- If baby is near the top of a range, size up so the one-piece still fits on Christmas Day.
- Compare the size chart on the product page with a one-piece that already fits well.
Fabric: what each one-piece is made of
Per their product pages, the gingerbread, elf and reindeer one-pieces are 95% polyester and 5% spandex, and the Ho Ho Ho one-piece is 93% polyester and 7% spandex. The bit of stretch makes them easier to get on and off a wriggly baby. Only our pumpkin, King & Princess and navy all-over Christmas print family sets are bamboo viscose; these four one-pieces are polyester.
Fit and care
These one-pieces are a snug fit, no added flame retardants. Follow the product page care instructions: machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, tumble dry low, and do not bleach. Washing before the first wear is a good idea, and gentle care helps the print stay bright for the photos you will look back on.
Coordinating baby with the family
A first Christmas is a great excuse for the whole family to match. A few combinations:
- Elf trio: baby in the elf one-piece, with the Women's and Men's elf pajama sets for parents.
- Gingerbread crew: baby in gingerbread, with older siblings in the gingerbread kids' two-piece and adults in the gingerbread Women's and Men's sets.
- Reindeer morning: baby and siblings in the reindeer family print, with a reindeer Women's set for mom.
- Ho Ho Ho and cookies: baby in Ho Ho Ho, with dad in the matching Men's cookies set.
First Christmas photo ideas
Keep baby photos simple and short; babies have limited patience for posing. Try a cozy shot on a blanket under the tree, a close-up of tiny hands on a wrapped gift, or baby in a parent's arms with the family in matching prints behind. Morning window light is softer than the overhead lamp. Take the photos before feeding time ends in a nap, and keep a spare outfit nearby for milk spills.
Keepsake and gift ideas
Many families keep the first Christmas one-piece in a memory box. A festive one-piece also makes a thoughtful gift for new parents or a baby shower in late autumn; include a note with the size so it can be exchanged if baby has grown.
Questions about first Christmas outfits
Which size for a December newborn? For a baby due in December, 0-3M is the natural starting point. If you are buying before the birth, consider ordering 0-3M and 3-6M so one fits on the day.
Can siblings match the baby? Yes. The gingerbread, elf, reindeer and Ho Ho Ho prints all have matching kids' or adult pieces, so older siblings can join in, and the reindeer kids' two-piece starts at 12-18M for toddlers.
Will it still fit for New Year? If you size up slightly, most families get a few weeks of wear through the holidays and into January, which means more chances for photos.
Making the day comfortable for baby
Babies are happiest when the day keeps a familiar rhythm. Plan visits around naps, keep the room comfortable rather than hot, and give baby quiet breaks away from the noise and wrapping paper. A long-sleeve one-piece is easy to layer: add a cardigan or a blanket for a walk, and remove layers indoors. And remember that baby will not remember the day, but you will, so take a few minutes to simply enjoy it together.
A simple keepsake: write a short note on Christmas night about who visited, what baby wore and what made everyone smile, and keep it with the one-piece.
